THE DIVINE FEMININE
WHY lydia ruyle’s art MATTERS
Images of the divine feminine hold immense relevance to today’s pressing social, cultural, and spiritual challenges of our time.
It’s rare to find a body of work with representations of the Divine Feminine from around the world in one place.
One artist, Lydia Ruyle, created such a collection and knew the importance of storytelling and the potency of imagery in conveying meaning to our own lives and stories.
She was an artist, scholar, author and visual storyteller. Her art focuses on the Divine Feminine across cultures, mythologies, and spiritual traditions.
Lydia Ruyle’s two main collections are portals into the sacred — a tapestry of feminine archetypes, ancestral wisdom, and global beauty.
about The artist
Lydia Ruyle
Lydia was a world traveler, peripatetic philosopher, and third-generation Coloradan. Her most well known body of work is her Goddess Icon banners that she affectionately called, “the girls”.
She started birthing and creating this body of work when she was 60 years old and focused on it for the next two decades, until her death in 2016. There are 309 Goddess Icon banners. Each piece references a known archeological artifact of the divine feminine from its culture of origin.
Beyond just creating “the girls”, she also was fueled and guided by their stories. She not only taught and shared their unique and sacred HERstories around the world but was also devoted to harvesting the wisdom of the ancient spirits and applying it to her daily life as a role model for living to your fullest potential.
